Maelig Miesset: At 15 years old, he is pursing the American dream
At just 15 years old, Maelig Mieusset made a decision that very few young athletes dare to take: leaving France to move to the United States in order to pursue both his athletic and academic development starting in high school. He joined Blue Ridge High School for a four-year journey combining American football and academics. Behind this decision lies a dream… but above all, a great deal of hard work, adaptation, and sacrifice.

Adapting to Succeed
When he first arrived, the beginning was not easy. The language barrier made the first few weeks challenging, both academically and socially. Very quickly, however, Maelig found his footing, thanks in part to the environment around him, but also to the support that had been put in place beforehand by the agency.
"When I arrived, it was a little complicated with English… the first few weeks weren’t easy."
Present throughout this period of adaptation, we supported him, advised him, and helped him navigate those first key moments until he was able to fully find his place.
"They really helped me and were very kind. Sports Connect was always there to answer my questions and clear up any doubts. Now everything is going well; it’s perfect. I have lots of friends and I speak English fluently."

Progress Built Through Hard Work
On the field, his journey followed the same pattern. When he first arrived, he was not playing at his natural position. A frustrating situation that he turned into motivation.
Through daily training, discipline, and consistency, Maelig gradually earned his place. His efforts eventually paid off: by the end of the season, he secured a starting spot at his original position during the final two games.
His coaches praised his exemplary mindset, highlighting his ability to enjoy the game and give 100 percent, regardless of the situation on the field.
A journey that perfectly reflects the values we stand for: commitment, resilience, and consistency in effort.
A Different Level of Demands
This experience also allowed him to discover a very different competitive environment. American football in the United States is more intense, with a faster pace of play and greater physical demands.
"I learned a lot in the United States. It was impressive… the speed of the game, the physicality of the players.. everything is very different from France."
This reality pushed him to raise his standards every day and accelerated his development.
Another major difference lies in the importance placed on academics.
"A good athlete isn’t just about what happens on the field. Here, if you don’t have good grades, you don’t play."
Fully aware of this challenge, Maelig committed himself to his schoolwork. After a difficult start due to the language barrier, he gradually found balance and understood that success depends as much on the classroom as it does on performance on the field.

A Double Athletic Success
Alongside American football, he discovered track and field. Initially practiced to improve his physical performance, the sport quickly became a true passion. He developed new skills and realized he also had strong potential in this discipline.
His qualities and leadership were quickly recognized: he was named captain of his track team, a remarkable distinction given that he was the only freshman among four seniors to receive this role.

The Price of the Dream
While the experience is extraordinary, it also involves significant sacrifices. Living more than 6,000 kilometers away from home, far from family and friends, requires strong mental resilience.
During those moments, regular follow-up and communication played a key role in helping him stay focused.
"Living 6,000 kilometers away from home, far from my family and friends, is a sacrifice. But I was mentally prepared for it."
"I feel like I’m living a dream. It’s incredible… but it didn’t happen overnight. I worked very hard."
A Symbolic Moment
If he had to keep only one memory, it would be his final game of the season.
"All week I kept saying: ‘In this game, I’m going to score. I’m going to get a touchdown.’"
"On game day, that’s exactly what happened."
"I had tears in my eyes… one year earlier, I was in France, lying in my bed and dreaming about this. And now, I’m living it."

A Promising Path Ahead
Maelig Mieusset’s journey perfectly illustrates what a sports project in the United States truly represents: a demanding path that requires courage, hard work, and constant adaptation.
His story also proves that with the right support and unwavering determination, a dream can become reality, even at just 15 years old.
